Robert W. Smart

Robert W. Smart, III, 82, a resident of the Cove Village in Zion Grove, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.

Robert was born in Queens, New York on August 19, 1941, a son of the late Robert and Charlotte (Myers) Smart.

After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving both active duty and reserves.  He then began a lifelong career as a police officer, working in several different divisions of the New York City Police Department.  He retired from the NYPD in 1990 and then moved to the local area, to enjoy the quiet country life.

A true Irish decendant, Robert enjoyed playing his bagpipes, as well as spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Donna Lynn (Liantonio) Smart, three stepsons, Ruben Cancio, Arthur Cancio and Dominick Cancio, along with three sons.

A brother, John 'Jack' Smart survives, as do three grandchildren, Dominic Kadziela, Lucca Walters and Cadence Cancio.

Robert will be laid to rest at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, following a brief service and military honors on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10:30 AM.
